EMBRACING THE EDGE
Ever found yourself on the edge of something?
Where the view in front of you looks completely different to the one behind you?
It's quite an exhilarating place to be.
Behind you - the ground you've known. It's got you where you are right now. You know it. You can trust it.
Look out in front of you - there's a world of opportunity. Unknown. Uncharted. Unending.
First comes the realisation, if you're game then you'll start heading towards it, and eventually you reach the moment where you're on the edge. "Between where you are and where you could be, between how it is and how it should be."
I've reached that moment. This adventure has been a long time coming, and now with days to go it's time to countdown to takeoff. The decisions of the past year - all of which seemed pretty minor at the time - are coming to a head and it's time to step out into something new. I'm just as scared of the unknown as the next guy... but I can't help thinking it's got so much to teach me, so much to discover, so much to experience.
I think maybe we're all at that moment right now.
The year is ending, and another year of new days and new opportunity is upon us. I've always loved the idea of making all things new. To me it's this opportunity, after having our head down with busyness all year, to finally look up and look out. To see what's out there, or what could be. To dream, learn, discover, explore, revisit, leave behind, experience, chase after, hold on to or let go of.
Hopefully you're reading this blog to stay in touch and come along for the journey to South America, and I'm pretty stoked to have you along for the ride! But hey, look at the edge you're standing on too... the potential of a whole new year. Being in this place makes me so aware of the importance of always looking forward, moving towards something even if it's only the edge of where you are now. And when you're there, take in the view.
Be thankful for how far you've come, and dream of how much further you can go.
There's a light that will always guide the way. It never fades, because the darkness cannot overcome it. And if you let it guide your steps, you'll never be disappointed. I dare you to move.
